I am your humble host and Reinvention Life Coach. As a Coach, I help you get from where you are today to where you really want to be. Sounds like a tall order, right? Maybe, but we only know when we have a plan and steadily pursue it. Sometimes that is easier (and usually MUCH faster) when you are accountable. That’s where I come in.
What makes me qualified to do this, you ask? Great question, you.
To be a Life Coach does not have a specific degree, or certificate requirement at this time. However, I do feel like I’ve been informally coaching people for most of my life. Starting in college at Illinois State University when I was chosen to be one of a handful of Peer Counselors on campus. Over the years as a Peer Counselor, I became a Career Peer Counselor, helping students learn about their interests, values and abilities as they apply to choosing a vocation.
This was like putting together pieces of a puzzle with someone to see the picture that could be their future. What fun! I never knew what they would decide based on all the information, and sometimes was surprised with the result. That’s a lot like coaching, because a coach helps you to make the best choices for you. Because then you own them. And we all know that when you are invested in something, you are much more likely to follow through. A coach doesn’t tell you what to do.
I enjoyed my Peer Counseling so much, that I decided to continue the trend and pursue a Master’s Degree in Counseling in Higher Education. I spent almost nine years working in Counseling Centers at three different community colleges in various centers, but mostly Career Counseling. I also taught Career Planning and Humanistic Psychology courses, and designed seminars for college groups. My favorites were Stress Management, Time Management and Assertive Communication.
When my third child was born, we moved to Texas and I spent the next six years enjoying being a mom. I started a couple of successful businesses from home which earned me two European vacations and the chance to recruit and train a whole bunch of fabulous women entrepreneurs. I started writing a newsletter, and trained and coached them to their own success. This time was very rewarding and so exciting to be a part of .
So, as I was working part-time to get back in the workforce, I decided to hang out my own shingle as a Life Coach. The process is always the same for my clients, but the goals and the results couldn’t be more different; coaching is not a cookie-cutter proposition. For me, that is what makes this coaching thing exciting. I get to learn right along with you about what will ultimately take you where you yearn to be.
And of course, none of it would be worth it, if we didn’t have some fun along the way. Nobody said that life had to be all work and no fun, right? But then, maybe I choose not to believe that…
I hope we get the chance to spend some time on this road called life together, because if there’s one thing I do know, it’s that when you travel with a guide, chances are you won’t get lost. But you may take a couple scenic detours!
So, if we do travel (work) together, I can be your Cheerleader (Go You!!!), your Accountability Partner, your Resource Guide (Life-ipedia?), and your Sounding Board (You sound marvelous). I won’t be your Therapist, Consultant or Mentor, though, just to get this coaching thing straight.
If you are ready to make the life of your dreams happen, and do what you need to do every day, I would be honored to help you get there as quickly and painlessly as possible. We’ll have some laughs, break some barriers and work together to co-create the life you have always wanted. Sound good?
Talk to you soon.
